HOW TO TREAT AND PREVENT BLACKHEADS.

Blackheads? Most of us don’t understand what blackhead really means. It’s not just a pimple or acne.

Blackheads are blemishes that can appear on any area of your skin, though they are often found on the face. They are a feature of mild acne, but they can appear without other signs of acne being present. They occur when the pores in the skin become plugged with dead skin cells, bacterias and an oily, protective substance known as sebum.

Overproduction of skin cells by the body can cause blackheads. Some other causes of blackheads includes;

– Blocking of pores by cosmetics and clothing
– Use of some steroid-based drugs, such as corticosteroids
– Shaving and other activities that open the hair follicles
– Stress , polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
– High humidity

Although you can easily treat blackheads, the best way to avoid complicated treatments is to prevent blackheads from forming in the first place

1. Cleanse your skin regularly. Use a gentle cleanser with a neutral pH. You may also look for cleansers with salicylic acid, which can be very helpful in keeping pores clean and preventing breakouts. Look for those that are fragrance-free and for sensitive skin, and avoid anything that makes your skin overly dry. If your skin is very oily, consider using an oil-free cleanser. Likewise, if your skin is dry, try using a glycerine or cream-based cleanser. Use lukewarm water to wash your skin.

Note: Cleansing too often can irritate your skin, strip its oil, and actually lead to further breakouts.

2. Always remove makeup before bed. Going to bed with makeup or cosmetic products on your skin can clog your pores. Remove all makeup or cosmetics with a gentle cleanser or makeup remover before you hit the pillow. Also do use non-comedogenic products that do not clog pores instead should keep the pores clear and open and reduce the buildup of dead skin.

3. If you are a very active person, shower after strenuous activities. Sweating can lead to excess bacteria and oil on your skin that could cause blackheads.

4. Getting enough rest and avoiding stress can also help, as stress can trigger sebum production. Exercise can help reduce stress.

5. Avoid squeezing blackheads, even with a metal blackhead remover, as this can irritate the skin and make the problem worse.

6. Apply moisturizer daily. Use a skin-type specific moisturizer after you’ve washed your face. Having properly hydrated skin can help prevent blackheads.

7. Keep your fingers away from most blackheads. As much as you are tempted to touch or pick at blackheads, avoid the temptation as this can spread oil and bacteria and may cause you to break out in more blackheads.

8. Eat balance diet. Avoid unhealthy and junk foods. Take fruits & vegetables, essential fatty acid, good carbs and drink a lot of water. STAY HYDRATED

9. Try other natural methods. For me, irish potato works perfectly for my face when rubbed all over. You can try Lemon, baking soda, cucumbers and other natural means

10. Talk to your doctor or dermatologist if your blackheads are stubborn or severe. He/She can advise you on the best products for your skin as well as prescribe special creams if needed such as retinoids, which are excellent for keeping pores clean and acne at bay.

I hope y’all enjoy this tips. What other methods do you use to prevent blackheads???
